My journey toward a career in automotive repair began very subtlety at the age of fourteen, while having a small neighborhood business in landscaping. During that time some of my equipment would break down and need to be fixed. I learned that I could manage these repairs on my own, while asking for advice from local lawn equipment companies in more difficult situations. It wasn’t long before I found that I enjoyed working on the equipment more than landscaping and that this had became a very significant part of my life. Fortunately for me, my family was a good customer at a local gas station where I was able to work part time pumping gas and learning the auto repair business, while attending Cardinal O’Hara high school. Watching the mechanics intently, I picked up on small repairs quickly and moved onto larger repairs as time went on.
My neighbor, who was a technician at an automobile dealership, heard of my enthusiasm for cars and asked if I would be interested in a summer position where he was employed. Since I was still in high school, I was ecstatic about the opportunity to be working at the dealership level. After graduating from BrandywineJunior College with an associate’s degree in business management, I looked forward to working again at the dealership where I had gained so much valuable experience and enjoyed the business ethics they embraced.
That was some 34 years ago now, when I returned to Stillman Volvo where I eventually became a Volvo Master Technician. I was offered the position as service manager in 2000, which was timely as it has proved to be a lot easier on my back. Now I enjoy managing a very busy service department with a great team comprised of over 20 people. Being able to work closely with customers, helping them keep their cars safe and reliable has now become my daily passion.
My wife Gloria and I have been married for over 33 years and we have been blessed with 2 children and 2 wonderful grandsons. When we’re not spending time with the family, Gloria and I enjoy riding our Harley Davidson’s around on the beautiful roads in the ChesterCounty area.
