Occasional visits to Stillman’s Automotive Center as a boy are among my favorite childhood memories. There was something special about the smell of oil and exhaust and just watching the mechanics at work. However, growing up in Knoxville where my father was an engineering professor at the University of Tennessee made it difficult to get there very often. In 1973, after an abbreviated college experience at UT, I decided to move north to work with my grandfather. Fortunately, he was a remarkably patient man as he put up with me while giving me an opportunity to learn the car business. Over the next six years I filled in anywhere needed while spending most of my time working on Volvos and Saabs. After Karen and I got married, we moved into the apartment over the “shop” where she always knew where I was late at night since the sound of the air guns could be clearly heard down below. It was a time when life and cars were both quite simple.
In 1979, after spending six months selling cars, I moved into the position of general manager. With no business education or experience, but a lot of enthusiasm, my family decided to take their chances with me. Knowing that I was in way over my head, I tried to follow my grandfather’s example of trusting God for the ability to manage the business responsibly. Eventually I developed some management skills while also getting a crash course on finance and expense control compliments of Paul Volker. The relationship with the Volvo Car Corporation has been exceptional which has made for a great long term experience. After all the years, the car business continues to be intriguing with so many recent advances in technology.
Karen and I have been blessed with a growing family that now includes four wonderful grandchildren; so naturally, spending time with our grandkids is what we enjoy most. In my free time I like to tinker with our collection of old Volvos and when I can escape from doing yard work, my favorite activity is riding on the scenic back roads of Chester County with the West Chester Cycling Club.

As a member of the third generation, Bill and Evelyn Stillman were not only the couple who started our family business, they were Mom-mom and Pop-pop to me. I have the fondest memories of my grandfather; a kinder, more understanding person, you couldn’t hope to meet. As a teenager is prone to do, I tested the limits of his patience on more than one occasion. However, being a bit of a rascal himself when he was young, he was well prepared for his role as a grandfather to dispense wise and respected council. He passed away at the all too early age of sixty-six and we all still miss him very much. As of this writing, my grandmother is ninety-seven, healthy and sharp as a tack. The two of them working together in the paneled office at the business on 45 S. MacDade Blvd. is the picture that comes to mind whenever I think of them and the business. Despite the fact that my grandparents lived with us for much of my youth, I would have to say my most vivid memories outside of the business would have to be of boating on the Chesapeake. To say that Bill Stillman loved being “on the boat”, would still be an understatement. He relished even the thought of it. For Evelyn, let’s just say, not so much.
I began working at the business when I was in my early teens washing cars and helping out in the parts department with my uncle, Bill Bingman. If there’s ever a competition for “nicest guy in the world”, and he doesn’t win, it would have to be rigged. Ok, I know what you’re thinking, first his grandfather’s the kindest and now his uncle’s the nicest, this is too much. So no more of that, I promise. What I am saying is, I have been privileged to work with and be a part of a family business with some very special people, and for that I am grateful.
My involvement with the business as an adult came suddenly when, in 1976, my grandfather’s health declined rapidly after a two year struggle with cancer. At that time, Stillman’s was a small, struggling Volvo/Saab dealership with few resources and fewer options. By default, during the summer between my Sophomore and Junior year of college, at the ripe old age of twenty, with some bedside direction from my grandfather and not a clue what I was doing, I assumed the role of General Manager. To the employees and customers of that era, my sincerest apologies. God was good and somehow we survived.
In 1978 I decided to move on to “greener pastures”, working for Burroughs Corp. (Unisys) in sales, pursuing an MBA and earning a Masters of Divinity at Westminster Seminary, before returning in 1988 to the family business where I have been ever since.
I am married to the lovely Judy and have three children Paul, Sarah and Laura – all of whom give me more joy than I deserve.

I am one of the great grandchildren of our founder (or fourth generation) who works for Stillman Volvo. I am proud to work for my family and grateful for the opportunities they have given me. I’ve been a car enthusiast all my life and I’m told that I could identify a Volvo by the shape of the lights at night before I turned 3. I enjoyed growing up in West Chester and was drawn back to the area after I got out of college.
I first came to work at Stillman Volvo in 1991 at the age of 13, where my job was cleaning the floors in the service garage twice a week. I came to appreciate Volvo’s safety at an early age when I accidentally lost control and hit a wall inside the service department. My introduction to car ownership was a somewhat tired, but good looking Porsche 914 that I managed to buy for $1500 when I was 15. With some creative financing, I was able to trade up for a Porsche 944S a year later that provided a remarkable opportunity for me to experience high speed driving at Pocono Raceway.
I graduated from Penn State University in May of 2000 with a degree in marketing and played for their men’s lacrosse team in my junior and senior years as a walk-on. After college I moved into the financial services field working for ING bank and Lockwood Financial. While working with them, I was able to attain a number of professional licenses including the series 7. In January of 2003, I got married to my wife Melissa and by May of that year it was time for me to re-join the family business in sales. Melissa and I welcomed our first son, Luke, into the world in May of 2007 and we’re hopeful for siblings to follow.
Since my return to Stillman Volvo I have worked as a sales consultant, financial services manager and in my current role as sales manager. Out of my appreciation for my family's heritage with Volvo I began rebuilding a 1973 Volvo in December of 2000. The car is now about 98 % finished and is a good reminder to me of the business that has sustained us and the brand we have proudly represented since my great grandfather began with Volvo in 1963.

Anyone working in the auto industry must have a love for the automobile. Whether it comes from pushing around those toy cars as a kid, working with your Dad on the family car or taking your first drive in your first car, we all love cars. I was certainly no exception and lucky to have 2 passions outside of my family, cars and music.
Music is still a very important part of my life. As a saxophonist, I’ve had many musical opportunities from performing with many Big Bands, current Jazz groups to leading my Wedding Band, Spectrum, for 23 years.
After graduating from
I started with BMW (325i) for a year and then joined Mercedes-Benz (E3204M) where I worked for 16 years in many capacities…Sales, Business Manager, Sales Manager, Internet Manager and Business Development Manager.
Before the Mercedes dealership was sold, I was fortunate to move to Stillman as the Financial Services Manager in 2006 (S70). Working next door to Stillman, I always heard wonderful things about the dealership, especially the Service Department. Stillman has certainly lived up to its great reputation as a business and an employer.

Since the very young age of two, I have been in a Volvo. My parents have been driving one since 1972, and of course, my first car was a 1974 Volvo 140 sedan which was a hand me down from my father. I literally grew up in the back seat of a Volvo.

I became the Pre-Owned sales manager in November of 2004. I looked forward to the challenge of creating a used car culture here at Stillman Volvo. The work in progress continues as we challenge each other and ourselves every day.
Over the years, I have met many wonderful people as well as co-workers. I have heard many life experiences and my ability to connect with people has led to a very loyal client base. I always thought it important to sell a car to be able to sell a car again. My product knowledge, solid practices and senior sales tenure have led me to where I am today. I truly believe in Volvo for Life.
When I am not here, I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife Jennifer and my two dogs, Gracie and Arthur. We love to travel and just hang out together.

In 2004, my wife, Sheila recommended that I apply for a sales opportunity here at Stillman’s. She knew that I would enjoy working for such a fine company because at that time, she had been working in our business office for over two years. I always knew she loved working for Stillman’s so I decided to make the move and I’m certainly glad I did. I consider the time I have spent here to be the most rewarding time spent in my career. Being able to faithfully service my customers’ needs is probably the most gratifying aspect of this position.

“Welcome to Stillman Volvo” is what you will hear from me if you call or stop in. Over the past 8 years I have had the pleasure of greeting and meeting many new and previous customers to our dealership. I have become a fixture in the showroom.
Years ago my first car was a pre-owned 1969 Volvo 240 sedan which proudly displayed the “I Love My Volvo” license plate on the front bumper. Since then, I have owned two other Volvos and I still love my Volvo! Stillman Volvo has been family owned and operated since 1946 and I feel so fortunate have been working with my family members during these past eight years.

My journey toward a career in automotive repair began very subtlety at the age of fourteen, while having a small neighborhood business in landscaping. During that time some of my equipment would break down and need to be fixed. I learned that I could manage these repairs on my own, while asking for advice from local lawn equipment companies in more difficult situations. It wasn’t long before I found that I enjoyed working on the equipment more than landscaping and that this had became a very significant part of my life. Fortunately for me, my family was a good customer at a local gas station where I was able to work part time pumping gas and learning the auto repair business, while attending Cardinal O’Hara high school. Watching the mechanics intently, I picked up on small repairs quickly and moved onto larger repairs as time went on.
My neighbor, who was a technician at an automobile dealership, heard of my enthusiasm for cars and asked if I would be interested in a summer position where he was employed. Since I was still in high school, I was ecstatic about the opportunity to be working at the dealership level. After graduating from
That was some 34 years ago now, when I returned to Stillman Volvo where I eventually became a Volvo Master Technician. Being able to work closely with customers, helping them keep their cars safe and reliable has now become my daily passion.

Since an early age I have always had an interest in cars. My first mode of transportation was a self built go-cart. It had a wood body and a baseball bat mounted to the side that I used as a hand brake. It was powered only by other friends pushing it. So began a lifelong interest in automobiles.

For a long as I can remember I’ve been a total car nut. Even as a small child I could name cars and even tell what model it was just by its tail lights. Anything that had to do with cars had my attention. So, I guess it’s natural that I chose the car business as my career.

I’ve also had the good fortune to work for some of the top dealers in the area, like Stillman Volvo. I literally have never heard a single bad comment about this dealer so when it came time for me to make a change in my career I applied for a job and as they say, the rest is history. In the short time that I’ve been working here I’ve come to understand what makes Stillman Volvo so special. It really is an awesome place to work.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Family is everything to me. It seems like there is always some project around the house that keeps me busy. I also have enjoyed the many, many cars I’ve owned and/or restored. I guess I’m just the kind of guy that likes mechanical things. I’ve always been that way. Though I had started working on cars at about the age of 10, I didn’t get my first automotive job until I was 25. After 3 ½ years at the national tire and automotive repair store, I decided to take the opportunity to work in a different field and went to work for a utility company. Part of my job was to manage the fleet vehicles, so it still involved cars. Four years later I decided it was time to return to what I really enjoyed; working with people and their vehicles.
I don’t know what first attracted me to Stillman Volvo, but once I was here for a week, I knew I had made the right decision to work for this dealership.
